What moves Us?

Rhythm, the diversity, life, love, passion... these are some of the deep motivations that guide researchers to approach traditional music around the world. Fifteen of them will share their experiences with us through the interactive film What moves us? Conversations with ethnomusicologists, a documentary that shows different narratives about music in socio-cultural contexts through interviews with researchers from diverse cultures and backgrounds combined with fieldwork materials from the participants themselves: what moves them to approach musical diversity?

The film aims to remind us of our main motivations as researchers and to develop empathy in academic and non-academic sectors about traditional music. How does music unify us? What does traditional music show us? What does it mean to celebrate diversity? What does it mean to be connected to culture? These are some of the questions we intend to address in our encounter. In parallel, we ask ourselves: are the different approaches to music necessarily at odds with each other? What scenarios of dialogue with music could we develop in conjunct?
